Today, we launched the Beta of the Jagran Junction Blog Site.    The launch itself created a lot of excitement internally  when the link went live on our Jagran Yahoo Site.  It feels great to have a platform that allows our readers, editors and guest writers to  express their views freely.  A true Manch .. as they would say.   We are hoping for a truly open platform.

While planning the site – we had many goals in mind – but foremost was to provide our readers with an engaging platform.  We used the basic WordPress engine to drive the blogging platform.  This was our first experience using the WordPress platform.   We pushed the limits of many of the features and functionality – and we are happy with what the open source platform has allowed us to achieve.

We started planning our development of the Jagran Junction Platform roughly three months ago.  The most tedious task was choosing the layout of our blog site.  The development on WordPress platform (adding the plugins, changing some of the logic etc) took us about 6 weeks.  I may say we took so much time since we were working with only one or two developers.  All in all, I would highly recommend WordPress for any site considering launching a blogging platform or a small size website.  WordPress provides tremendous flexibility in the ability to change the code,  it is low cost since it is open source,  a vast library of plug-ins and most of the user generated features such as commenting, rating etc that most sites in the WEB 2.0 world would like to have.

Two Thumbs Up to WordPress from the MMI team.    And we hope to have your views on WHATEVER on our new platform.
