A few days ago,  I had the honor to meet Sachin Pilot, The Honorable Minister of ICT.  In white kurta pajama, and white shawl, spectables and a red dori on his wrist –  he was definitely dashing.  In a geeky kind of way.     No wonder he is often rated the Top 100 Handsome Indian Men.     I can definitely second that motion.   And after watching the movie Paa – one dreams of day that there will be more politicians like the one portrayed by Abhishek Bachan.  If initial impressions are anything to go by, they may have modeled the character after Sachinji himself.     If I was to do a  true comparision, the real thing was definitely better than the model.   Yes, I do hope that I get more of these NEW AGE POLITICIANS .

I won’t delve much into his background.  But if you are unfamiliar with the name, please see Wikipedia for more details because he is a name that you should know since he is presently the Minister of State in the Ministry of Communications and Technology .

When the minister walked into the room, I felt a bit odd since he clearly looks very very young.  He could clearly pass off as a college student even though he is a respectable 32 years of age.  As he spoke, he was clearly polished, amazingly funny and totally in control of the meeting.  He admitted  frankly when he did not understand something, things that were just “Crazy”,  joked to lighten the tension in the room and more importantly  acknowledged areas that he could help promote.   Some of his statements was really catchy  – and no matter where we work – they apply:

  • “One should be open to ideas, suggestions and best practices!   We need to share experiences, learn what has worked and what has not worked.”
  • “Often intent is different from Impact”
  • “Technology evolves every Fortnight or so.
  • “And it is time for us (INDIA) to “lead by example””
  • “Sometimes things sound weird – but we may need to understand where it is coming from”

India is the 4th most wired country in the world .. and poised to clearly becoming #2.   It is refreshing and heartening to see such a dynamic leader at the helm of the Ministry of ICT.  Jai Ho!     And if Congress continues to push such faces to the fore front there will be no stopping  India from becoming #1.
