What Happened to TeamWork, Hey Amir

In business school and then in business life, we have all learned that it is all about Team Work.   The success of a product, an idea, etc is the result of many individual actions that make it come together – from the conceptualization, the development, to the marketing and sales.   There are a lot of people that need to work together to make things happen.   As the saying goes there is no I in TEAM.

So when I heard about the latest controversy surrounding Amir Khan and his resignation from the Copyright Act Panel, I had to put my two sense in.     Since according to media reports, at a recent meeting between producers and writers over the issue of royalties, Aamir tried to take the credit from the writers by saying that a song’s popularity depends on the star it was picturised on and not on the lyricist’s efforts.   WOW, this is a big stretch even from a big star such as Amir Khan.

From my own personal experience, the first time I often hear a new tune is on the RADIO  .. and since there are no pictures .. then it is the  lyrics, beats, melody, instrumentation and  vocals all put together is what make it a hit.   Whether it is the lyricist, the singer or the instrumentalist that should take the credit .. well I can’t be sure.    I sometimes have never watched the movie or seen the music video of the song .. and I still love the music.   Case in point are all the classics, which have remained on our lips for eras .. do I even remember how the star was picturized.  I cannot say that I do.

All in all there are many people a songs success can be contributed to.  And we should thank the team .. from the song writer, to the singer, to the producer, the music director, the musicians, the star picturizing the song,  and the marketing company making sure that every channel is playing it repeatedly to ensure familiarity of the tune to the listeners.   This is all a TEAM EFFORT.

There are many things that make music good .. but most importantly  .. it is the listener.   I might like something and you may not.     It has nothing to do with anything else.  There is an I in this post somewhere.
