I am back in the US and ofcourse everytime I come back I need to comment on the changes that I see in the Technology usage.

Well first and foremost – my shopping list from India, where today the most requested items from my friends are the IPAD and the Macbook.   I however have my eye on the new IPHONE 4G.  I am too excited to visit the Apple store.   I called the store today to see if they have any IPADS in stock and to my dismay  there is a still a waiting list for the IPAD ..  at best they are promising one week …  ah shucks .   But I will be going on Thursday and can’t wait.

Here is what I am struck by:

  • The video ads on Google.  There are many advertisers using the medium including Sony, gaming companies and many, man more.  The quality of the ads are excellent – much better than most of the videos.
  • WLAN access seems to be everywhere with even the trains advertising WI-FI access.
  • Netflix video streaming is awesome.  Watching movies could not be quicker and easier.   The quality is great.
  • The number of laptops in my house.  There seems to be more laptops than people.  And we seem to be lost without it and if even for a minute there are any problems with the Wi-Fi access.
  • The usage of Internet on the mobile phone to search numbers, places etc.
  • Unlike all the hype, no-one around me is twittering – while everyone is on Facebook
  • Ripping off music (MP3) from Youtube could not be easier with all the SW around

I finally went to the Apple store on Thursday .. the store as usual was very busy ..  and I was very lucky since there were IPADs in stock .. I picked up 4 of them.  Yep, you heard right four of them – they are the most requested item on my list.   I was a bit jealous – since my IPAD only has Wi-Fi and these come enabled with 3G also … maybe I already need to upgrade.   So anyone want to buy a slightly used WLAN 64G IPAD.   The device is awesome and the sales staff is also covering the box lest he be rampaged.   The limit is two per person.. or should I say two per credit card.   Lucky for me credit cards are not an issue.  The checkout process at the Apple stores never fails to amaze me as all the sales staff is walking around with IPHONES enabled with credit card readers for easy checkout.   They have really tried to make the entire experience fun.

I also did look at the IPHONE 4 – but I was not blown away by its looks.   I did try out some of its features but nothing really there to compel me to buy it.   Thank god, otherwise I might have been maxing out the limit of my credit cards.
